Buettner promoted to men’s basketball associate head coach at Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech men’s basketball head coach Kevin Luke announced Friday assistant coach Josh Buettner has been promoted to the position of associate head coach. Buettner has served in his current role for the past 13 seasons. His responsibilities include leading recruiting efforts for the program and game day coaching. He began his duties with the Huskies on July 1, 2008 and has recruited four All-Americans and numerous All-GLIAC first team selections since his appointment.

“I am very pleased to announce the promotion of coach Buettner to associated head coach,” Luke said. “It is a position that is well deserved as he has contributed to the success of our program in a major way over the past 13 years.”

Buettner is originally from Shawano, Wisconsin and starred as a player for the Huskies from 2001-2005. He was a two-time All-American and earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player of the year honors both as a junior and senior. A 6-foot-9-inch forward, Buettner finished third on Tech’s all-time scoring chart with 2,061 career points.

Following his graduation from Tech in 2005, Buettner played professionally in Europe for three years. Over that period, he was a member of leagues in Denmark, Sweden, and Iceland and was named the Danish Elite League player of the year in his second professional campaign.

Since accepting the position of assistant coach at Michigan Tech, Buettner has helped the Huskies to four NCAA regional appearances, one conference championship, and six conference semifinals.

“Josh Buettner’s promotion to associate head coach of our men’ basketball program is well earned,” said Suzanne Sanregret, director of athletics. “Josh has done a fantastic job for many years and deserves this opportunity.”

In addition to his coaching duties, Buettner teaches classes in the kinesiology and integrated physiology department. He resides in Hancock with his wife Jenna.
