Former Pitt men’s basketball players Jamarius Burton and KJ Marshall have been named player development specialists for the 2026-27 Pitt men’s basketball season. Both Burton and Marshall were graduate managers for the program before being elevated into their roles for the upcoming season.
In their roles as player development specialists, Burton and Marshall will be tasked with assisting the coaching staff with practice planning, scout team preparation, skills work and overall player development.
Burton started 60-of-64 games in two seasons at Pitt, leading the team to the NCAA Tournament as a senior in 2022-23. He averaged 13.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists at Pitt and earned first team All-ACC honors as a senior. For his collegiate career, which spanned 154 games between stops at Wichita State, Texas Tech and Pitt, Burton totaled 1,521 points, 540 rebounds and 476 assists. He played one season overseas with the House of Talents Kortrijk Spurs of the Belgium Pro Basketball League before returning to Pitt for the 2025-26 season as a graduate manager.
Marshall walked on to the Pitt program as a freshman in 2019-20 before spending a season each at Garden City Community College and Mars Hill. He returned to Pitt for the 2022-23 season and played in 25 games over three years with the Panthers. He was known for bringing tremendous energy to practice and providing excellent scout team looks in game preparation. A 2024 Pitt graduate, Marshall has spent the last two years as a graduate manager in the program.
