Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com reported yesterday that Bob Burton was out as the head coach at Cal State Fullerton. I can now confirm that rumor after speaking with someone close to the situation. Burton steps down as the winningest head coach in school history with a 155-122 record. With a new president expected at the university soon, and the AD’s contract expiring in the fall, some believe that this was a good time for Burton to step aside. Associate head coach Andy Newman will assume the title of interim head coach. He has been on Burton’s staff for the past nine seasons. According to my source, he will coach the team this season, with a more formal search taking place at the conclusion of the 2012-13 season.
