Justin Busch has been named the Graduate Assistant Coach for the Illinois Wesleyan University men’s basketball team, Head Coach Ron Rose announced Thursday, Aug 27. Busch will serve as a Graduate Assistant Coach for the men’s basketball team, while working towards a masters degree at Illinois State University.
“We are excited to have Justin join our coaching staff as he brings terrific experience, both as a player and coach, understanding what it takes to be successful in the classroom and the court,” Coach Rose stated. “He relates well with the players and his strong work ethic will allow him to have an immediate positive impact.”
Prior to joining the Titan’s staff, Busch was an accomplished student-athlete at Loras College. During his time as a Duhawk, the men’s basketball program compiled a 60-43 record, as well as winning an Iowa Conference Championship in the 2016-17 season. In his senior season, Busch was named team captain. He excelled academically as well, as he was named to academic all-conference team three times.
After his playing career, Busch enjoyed a successful stint as the assistant men’s basketball coach for his alma mater from 2018-20. In his time coaching at Loras, the Duhawks compiled a 40-15 record, including an appearance in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament. In his two seasons, Busch coached an All-American, as well as an American River Conference Most Valuable Player. At Loras, Busch’s roles included helping oversee academic success programs, practice planning, putting together scouting reports, and recruiting.
A native from Bartlett, Ill., Busch earned his degree in English from Loras.
