Shaw University announced Friday that they have added Darryl Butler as an assistant coach for their men’s basketball team.
Butler comes to Shaw from Virginia State where he served for two years as an assistant coach. Prior to that, he worked at Frederick County (Md.) and Montgomery County (Md.) Community Colleges.
"Darryl brings a lot of experience and a knowledge of the CIAA to Shaw," said head coach Cleo Hill, Jr. "His background in the mid-Atlantic region gives us a real boost in recruiting in the region, and he’s outstanding in player and skill development. Even more importantly, he has a passion for the academic standards of our program."
At Frederick Community College, Butler served as the associate head coach for three seasons. In his last two years there, the team finished with a record of 41-18 and won their first Region XX Championship in school history.
He also spent four years at Montgomery Community College and before that T.C. Williams H.S., Howard, Whittier and Pepperdine.
