Byron Rimm Added to Alabama State Men’s Basketball staff

Alabama State head men’s basketball coach Lewis Jackson announced the addition of former Prairie View A&M coach Byron Rimm to his staff.

Rimm joins the Hornets following a year as an assistant with UC Riverside.

“I think its a great hire for us, we wanted someone with a lot of coaching experience,” Jackson said. “Coach Rimm has had a lot of stops, including 11 years as a head coach at P.V. We are excited to have him. He is enthusiastic, a great motivator and a great recruiter. With all that he brings to the table he will be a plus for Alabama State.”

Rimm brings an extensive background in college basketball to the Hornets and is intimately familiar with the SWAC, having served as the head coach at Prairie View A&M from 2006-15. During his time with the Panthers, the program ascended to new heights, including back-to-back appearances in the SWAC tournament championship game in 2013 and 2014.

Prior to his time at Prairie View, the Pensacola, Fla. native earned his stripes by working in various roles throughout the West Coast, which included stops as an assistant with Pasadena City College and Chaffey Community College from 1997-2000.

After guiding Cal State San Bernardino to a No. 3 ranking in NCAA Division II during the 2000 campaign, Rimm took over the reins as the head women’s basketball coach at Texas College in Tyler, Texas, guiding the team to a 20-12 mark in his lone season, the best record in school history. Following a four-year stint as the head men’s coach with Jarvis Christian College, Rimm joined Prairie View A&M as an assistant for the 2005-06 season and quickly found his way to the top the following year.

Rimm graduated from California State University Los Angeles in 1999 and earned his master’s degree in education from American InterContinental University in 2005.
