The search to replace Joe Callero at Cal Poly is moving at warp speed. Callero, who officially resigned on March 6th, coached the last two games of the season for the Mustangs, wrapping up a 6-23 (2-14 Big West) season on Saturday. Callero will reportedly be paid a $137,000 buy out for the one year that he has left on his contract.
I can confirm that Jeff Schemmel from College Sports Solutions (CSS) is running the search. I have also heard from multiple sources that interviews will take place some time this week in Las Vegas.
A large initial list of around 25 candidates has been pared down for the interviews. Some of the names that I have heard surrounding this one are Stanford associate head coach Adam Cohen, Nevada assistant coach Gus Argenal, UCSB assistant coach John Rille, Drexel assistant Paul Fortier, and at least two other big-time PAC-12 assistant coaches.
This one should be wrapped up before the Final Four. More as I hear it…
