Lander University head men’s basketball coach Omar Wattad has announced the addition of Darrius Carter to the coaching staff for the 2021-22 season.
“Adding DC to this staff is an absolute game-changer. His basketball acumen along with his relationship building and developing of players on the court will be major additions to this program,” said Wattad. “He’s an extremely organized, hard worker with humility and high character. That’s what Lander Basketball is all about. We’re grateful to have him along for the journey.”
Carter brings experience coaching at the Div. I and II levels, with stints at Northern Arizona and most recently Southern Wesleyan.
While with Northern Arizona, Carter was the Recruiting Coordinator and Director of Scouting during his three years in Flagstaff, Ariz.
During his tenure with Southern Wesleyan, he facilitated recruiting, player development and opponent scouting while also acting as the Head JV Coach.
Carter was a two-time All-SAC recipient as a junior and senior at Tusculum, leading the Pioneers in scoring those seasons.
“I am super excited to join the Lander University family! First off, I would like to thank Director of Athletics, Brian Reese as well as head coach Omar Wattad for the opportunity to work at a premier program such as Lander,” said Carter. “Having played against Coach Wattad’s teams at LMU, I’ve always been impressed with his preparation, the way he builds relationships with his players and his basketball mind. The opportunity to learn from one of the best coaches around on a daily basis was an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up. I’m beyond grateful to be a Bearcat!”
