Casey named Head Basketball Coach at JUCO Rowan College South Jersey – Gloucester

Richard Casey has been selected as the new Roadrunner Men’s Basketball coach for 2022-23, and the veteran skipper can’t wait to make his mark on the program.

“This program has a solid foundation, and I have no doubt we will build success here,” said Casey, who takes over for former coach Will Logan, who has moved on to assume the role of Camden County College Athletics Director. “The previous coach (Will Logan) did a nice job and left the team in great shape. Also, I’ve known Brian Rowan (Athletic Director) for many years, and I know the Department as a whole is in great shape. All of this makes my job a lot easier!”

Casey brings a wealth of basketball coaching and athletics administration experience with him to Roadrunner Basketball and has familiarity with NJCAA Region 19 programs.

“The Rowan College program has a great tradition within Region 19 and the Garden State Athletic Conference playing against some of the top junior college programs in the country,” said Casey. “We have set a high standard here, and I look forward to keeping us at the highest level possible.”

Roadrunner Athletics Director Brian Rowan welcomes Casey to the program: “We are very excited to have Rich at the helm of our program. We had a short time to replace Will (Logan) and wanted to find an experienced coach because we have a talented group of players here this season. Rich brings a lot to the table in terms of X’s and O’s and also great connections within the basketball world which will help our students move on to four-year programs. We can’t wait for him to get started and for the years ahead.”

Casey has previously been the head men’s basketball coach at Valley Forge Military Academy and College where his team won the 2018 Roadrunner Classic. He also previoulsy was the head coach at Goldy-Beacom College (NCAA DII), Nuemann University (NCAA DIII), and Manor College (NJCAA).

He previously spent six summers as the Director of the Philadelphia 76ers Summer and seasonal camps. Casey was also the John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls’ High School (Philadelphia) Athletics Director and Softball Coach.

Casey previoulsy also served as the University of the Sciences (Philadelphia) Assistant Director of Athletics, NCAA Compliance Officer, and Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach and also as the Softball Head Coach.

Altogether, Casey has 12 years of NCAA and NJCAA head coaching experience.

Casey is a 1988 Temple University graduate with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Marketing Management. He attended Florida Institute of Technology (Melbourne, Florida) and played baseball and men’s basketball. Casey graduated from Northeast Catholic High School (Philadelphia) and also played baseball and men’s basketball.

He currently resides in Philadelphia with his wife, Caroline, and two daughters, Gwenyth and Darby.
