Central Methodist hires GA

Carl Richburg will join the Central Methodist men’s basketball program as a graduate season for the 2013-14 season, head coach Jeff Sherman announced.

"Coach Richburg has an impressive basketball resume and brings a wealth of basketball experience and knowledge to our coaching staff," Sherman said. "His playing experience will most certainly benefit our current players, and his knowledge and background will greatly influence our program. I believe he will compliment both Coach (Charlie) Wilson and me to bring the most to this program and help get CMU back on top of the HAAC."

Richburg comes to Fayette after spending last season as an assistant at Thomas Moore (Ky.), a NCAA Division III institution. He helped guide the Saints to a school-record 23 wins and coached point guard D’Carlo Hayes to a conference Player of the Year accolade.

Richburg has also coached camps at Rutgers, Northern Kentucky, Connecticut, Baylor, Miami (Ohio) and Cincinnati.

Richburg played professionally for the Youngstown Swish in Ohio during the 2009-10 season in which he led the team in scoring, assists and steals and for the Southern Ohio Kings during the 2011-12 season.

Richburg started his collegiate basketball career at Southern Indiana in the 2004-05 season. As a point guard, he played in all 32 games, making 27 starts, and helped the Screaming Eagles to the 2005 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) regular-season and tournament championships. Richburg was selected to the GLVC All-Tournament Team and GLVC All-Academic Team.

Richburg transferred to Miami (Ohio) for his final three seasons (2006-09) and helped the team win the 2007 Mid-America Conference (MAC). The Redhawks participated in the NCAA, NIT and CBI tournaments during his time with Miami.

Richburg earned a Bachelor’s degree from Miami in 2009 with a major in Psychology and minor in Marketing. He received a Special Education Licensure from Miami in 2012 while coaching at his alma mater Mason (Ohio) High School.
