Charlotte Men’s Hoops Assistant, Fearne, Promoted to Associate Head Coach

Charlotte men’s basketball assistant coach, Aaron Fearne has been promoted to Associate Head Coach ahead of the 2022-23 season head man Ron Sanchez announced Friday.

“Asking Aaron Fearne to join our staff was one of the best decisions I’ve made as the head coach at Charlotte,” Head Coach Ron Sanchez said. “His knowledge of the game and coaching experience are second to none and his commitment to our program and the university deserves recognition.”

Fearne enters his fifth season on Coach Sanchez’s staff in which he helped CLT land the top-ranked recruiting class in Conference USA in 2019, 20 and 21, while guiding the 49ers to a steady improvement in each season.

Since arriving in the Queen City, Fearne has been a key member of Coach Sanchez’s staff and will be taking on the role as his top assistant for the first time this upcoming season.

This past season saw the 49ers make an eight-win improvement from 2020-21, winning 17 games, marking the most for the 49ers since 2013-14. In Conference USA play, Charlotte earned 10 victories—marking the second time since 2006 the program earned double-figure league victories—for the second time under Sanchez.

The Niners also greatly improved their performances away from home, earning six total road wins and four wins away from home in conference action. CLT’s six road wins were the most since 2011-12 and Charlotte’s four in conference play were the most since 2009-10 when CLT was still in the Atlantic 10.

Fearne was also integral in the recruitment and development of 2021 Conference USA Freshman of the Year, Aly Khalifa, who ranked second on the Niners and 10th in the league in assists (3.5 apg) and led C-USA in assist/turnover ratio in the Alexandria, Egypt native’s first full season on the floor.
