Chase Brinkley Named Assistant at Vincennes

Former college player and AAU coach Chase Brinkley has been added to the Vincennes University Men’s Basketball Team’s coaching staff for 2015-16.

Brinkley, a Paris, IL, native, will join Brian Davis on Coach Todd Franklin’s Trailblazer staff.

“I’m very honored to be a part of the Vincennes basketball family. Having played for former Vincennes standout Josh Virostko in high school, I remember hearing names such as Shawn Marion and Bob McAdoo, so I’m grateful to now have my name alongside theirs and associated with such an esteemed program,” Brinkley said. “Coach Franklin and Coach Davis have done an outstanding job of continuing the success of this historic program and I am excited to have two great coaches to learn from. I hope that I’ll be able to bring new ideas and contribute to the winning tradition here at VU.”

The University of Illinois Springfield graduate was a two-year guard for the Stars after being a two-year starter and team captain at Olney Central College. At UIS, Brinkley helped the program reach the post-season for the first time in its history in 2011-12. In the process, he paced UIS in 3-point shooting at 52.2 percent. With a double-major of history and teacher education, he was also a Great Lakes Valley Conference Academic All-Conference selection.

At Olney Central, Brinkley was also a GRAC Academic All-Conference honoree and landed the GRAC All-Conference Sportsmanship Award. As a sophomore at Olney Central, he averaged nine points per game and shot
nearly 80 percent at the free throw line.

Brinkley has meshed his collegiate playing career with coaching opportunities to build his early basketball teaching profile. He spent the 2013-14 season as a student assistant coach at Illinois Springfield. In that role, he handled travel arrangements, organized community outreach efforts, developed individual workouts and assisted the head coach with practice and in-game strategy. Brinkley also monitored player academic progress and played a central role in the UIS summer basketball camps in 2012 and 2013.

In addition, Brinkley was a volunteer coach at Lincoln Christian University’s 2009 summer camps.

While student teaching at Marshall (IL) High School, he was an assistant with the Lions varsity basketball and football programs. Brinkley also spent the summer of 2011 as a volunteer assistant coach at Shiloh High School.

In addition, Brinkley was the head coach of the All-In Elite AAU Basketball Program in 2014. Other AAU- and summer basketball-related duties in Brinkley’s coaching resume’ include being an instructor for beginning and developing players with the Illinois Blue Devils AAU program’s 2012 Summer All-Star Camp.
