Cleveland named Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Los Angeles Southwest College

Mt. San Jacinto assistant coach Mack Cleveland has been hired as the head coach at Los Angeles Southwest. With over 21 years of college coaching experience, Cleveland has coached at both the community college and professional level.

In addition to coaching at MSJC, Cleveland served as the head coach and general manager of the Laredo Storm in the American Basketball Association. Cleveland, who has nearly 20 years of coaching experience, assistant coach at Williston State College in Williston, North Dakota.

This will be his Cleveland’s second stint at Los Angeles Southwest. From 2000-05 Mack coached at LA Southwest helping the Cougars to the 2001 CCCAA State Championship and three conference titles.

Cleveland also spent three seasons as an assistant at Blinn College in Texas and prior to that at Western Texas. He also served as the head coach at LA City College during the 2008-09 season, earning the South Coast-North Coach of the Year award.

Cleveland, who earned an associate degree from Los Angeles Valley College, earned a bachelor’s degree from Clark-Atlanta University and then a master’s degree in Physical Education from California State University, Dominquez Hills. He is currently working on his Doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration at Texas Tech University.
