Following up on something that I TWEETED last night…
Coastal Carolina has hired Elwyn McRoy as an assistant coach. Most recently, the veteran coach had served as the recruiting coordinator at Washington State.
I am not sure that there has been a coach who has logged more miles than McRoy over his career. Here’s a look at where the veteran assistant has been over the past 20 seasons:
1997-98: Butler County CC – Assistant Coach1999-2000: Independence CC-Kan. – Assistant Coach
2000-01: Wichita Southeast HS – Assistant Coach
2001-02: Redlands CC-Okla. – Assistant Coach
2002-03: Frank Phillips College-Texas – Head Coach
2003-05: Southern – Assistant Coach
2005-06: Northwood-Fla. – Assistant Coach
2006-08: Georgia Southern – Assistant Coach
2008-10: Arkansas State – Assistant Coach
2010-11: Iowa State – Assistant Coach
2011-12: Hutchinson CC-Kan. – Assistant Coach
2012-13: Stillman College-Ala. – Assistant Coach
2013-14: Texas-Pan American – Assistant Coach
2014-17: Coppin State – Assistant/Associate Head Coach
2018-19: Washington State – Recruiting Coordinator
Back in 2013, The Chronicle of Higher Education did a really good piece on McRoy’s journey (made even better by the HoopDirt mention 😉 ). It’s a great read for young coaches trying to understand the grind.
An official announcement at Coastal is expected sometime this week.
