College of Eastern Utah Coach Found Dead

Sad news today in the college basketball world. According to multiple reports, College of Eastern Utah head coach Brad Barton was found dead is his apartment yesterday. Barton, who was only 31, became the permanent head coach at CEU in June after serving as the interim head coach last season. Barton was an assistant at Snow College (2008-09), an assistant at Viewmont High School in Utah (06-08) and a student-assistant coach at Weber State University (04-05). He also played at Weber State from 2001-2003.

According to the Sun Advocate newspaper, there was no sign of foul play at Barton’s apartment. Barton was found there by an assistant coach who came to check on him after not hearing from Barton on Monday. The state medical office will investigate the cause of death. I have heard from many people who knew Coach Barton, and they said that he had been suffering from diabetes for years. Definitely a sad day for college basketball.
