Cone named Head Basketball Coach at NAIA Simpson U (CA)

Simpson University announced in a press conference that the university has hired its new head men’s basketball coach, David Cone

Simpson U President, Dr. Hall made the announcement to the local media and the Simpson community and campus that the Red Hawks have entered into a new era of Simpson men’s basketball.

After combing through over 80 applicants and engaging in over two dozen screenings and multiple on-campus interviews, Simpson University has found its new head men’s basketball coach.

David Cone comes to Simpson University with incredible experience including eight seasons as an assistant coach at Biola University. Cone helped Biola reach the NAIA National Championship tournament in 2015-16 and end the season with a top-5 ranking in the NAIA Top-25 Coaches’ Poll. Coach Cone also assisted with Biola’s transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II and was vital in the recruiting process.

Cone was an assistant on coaching legend, Biola Head Coach, Dr. Dave Holmquist’s staff. Dr. Holmquist is one of five four-year college coaches to ever win 1,000 career games.

Cone also played collegiately at Biola and Wayland Baptist from 2009-2012 where they reached the NAIA National Quarterfinals twice.

He graduated from Wayland Baptist in 2013 with a B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science and graduated with an M.A. in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine in 2017.

Coach Cone will begin his duties immediately and will be actively recruiting as he heads into his first season at Simpson in 2023-24.
