Tanner Cooke joins the CSU Pueblo Men’s Basketball team as the program’s lead assistant coach. Tanner comes to Pueblo after spending the previous seven seasons on staff at Wayne State College (NSIC) in Wayne, Nebraska.
Tanner is joining head coach, Matt Hammer as he enters his fourth season in leading the ThunderWolves. “I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to work with Tanner. He’s worked for outstanding coaches and has been part of some great programs. He is a great addition to our team and to CSU Pueblo!”
Cooke helped coach the Wildcats to a pair of NSIC South Division titles in the last four seasons along with the teams’ first trip to the NCAA Division II National Tournament in 21 years during the 2021 season with an 11-7 record. After experiencing success at Wayne State, Tanner is ready to be a ThunderWolf. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to join this program! I’m excited to meet all the guys and get to work!”
Cooke is a graduate of the University of Dubuque where he played on the Spartan men’s basketball team for four seasons. He was a member of two Iowa Conference Tournament teams that advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament and during his four years with the Spartans the team won a school record 83 games (83-27).
Cooke graduated from the University of Dubuque in May, 2015 with a degree in exercise science and a minor in coaching. The Cedar Falls, Iowa native (graduate of Northern University HS), obtained a master’s degree in organizational management at Wayne State College in May, 2017.
The CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves men’s basketball team begin their season with six consecutive games at home, starting on November 11th against Midwestern State University.
