When the Fall semester begins, there will be a lot of "new" things for Red Barons Athletics. New offices, new locker rooms, a new turf field and now a new men’s basketball coach. Isaac Bushey will take the reins of the men’s basketball program and he has high hopes for the future of the program.
"I am extremely honored to help lead the Corning CC Red Barons Men’s Basketball team while returning to my MSAC (Mid-State Athletic Conference) and Region 3 roots. I’m excited for the opportunity to help guide a historic and prestigious athletic program consisting of high character student athletes, coaches and staff. John Wooden said, "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are." That level of high character is going to be the foundation of our program moving forward", said Bushey from his home in Buffalo, NY.
Bushey is no stranger to the highly-competitive MSAC and Region III. He played at Jefferson CC prior to transferring to Hilbert College where he captained his team and graduated with a degree in Business Management. Most recently, Bushey has been on the sidelines as an assistant coach at D’Youville College. He has a solid recruiting background as well as camps, fundraising, community volunteerism and academic mentoring experiences.
"I am very excited to introduce the addition of Coach Bushey to our Red Barons family. His enthusiasm for the game was impressive but what was most impressive was his desire to make a difference in the lives of his athletes, particularly through character development. He is an advocate of community colleges, an advocate of athletics, but most of all, an advocate of higher education and the opportunities education can present. Isaac also brings with him great recruiting connections across the state which will be vital in moving the program forward. His familiarity with community college athletics, our conference and our Region is an advantage and made him a logical fit for this position", says CCC Director of Athletics Stacy Johnson.
Bushey becomes only the fourth men’s basketball coach the Red Barons have had in the past 45 years and is taking over a team that finished 13-14 on the season and advanced to the MSAC Conference Final Four.
