It’s official – Gene Cross is out after two years as the head coach at Toledo. Cross was 11-53 in his two seasons, including 4-28 this year. Also, Cross had three years of a five-year contract remaining that called for him to be paid an annual base salary of $280,000 per season – he will be paid through Aug. 1. Since he resigned, there will be no buyout of his three remaining years. Cross served as an assistant coach for 12 years at four different institutions. He began his collegiate coaching career at Illinois-Chicago (1996-02) followed by stops at DePaul (2002-05), Virginia (2005-06) and Notre Dame (2006-08). A national search has already begun for his replacement.
