I can confirm that D2 Cal Merced will hire D3 Stevenson University’s head coach Gary Stewart to lead its men’s basketball program.
Stewart, has been the head coach at Stevenson for the past 14-seasons, but is no stranger to the West Coast. He has previously served as the head coach at UC Davis (2003-2011), Cal State East Bay (1995-97), and La Verne (1987-95). Stewart has won 385 games over his 32-seasons as a head coach.
The veteran coach has also served as the President of the NABC Board of Directors (2022-23), and been serving as an assistant in the Reese’s College All-Star Game since 1998.
