D2 NEWS: Kennedy out as Head Basketball Coach at Spring Hill

Spring Hill College men’s basketball head coach Craig Kennedy will not return next season, Athletic Director Joe Niland announced today.

“We want to thank Craig for his dedication to our student-athletes and the Spring Hill community over the last 11 years, Niland said. “He has been a strong representative of Spring Hill College during his tenure, and we wish him the very best moving forward.”

Kennedy, after coaching stints at Troy University, Georgia Southern University, and Auburn University, joined the Badger staff as an Assistant Athletic Director in 2015 before assuming the Badger men’s basketball head coaching position in June 2018. He coached 9 SIAC All-Conference Team honorees, 4 NCAA DII HBCU All-Americans, and 6 CoSIDA/CSC All-America All-District members during his tenure, but individual success did not translate directly into team success on the court.

Kennedy departs Spring Hill with an overall record of 63-139 and a record of 45-94 in conference play across 8 seasons.

“Our goal remains to compete for conference and national championships and provide an experience second-to-none for our student-athletes,” Niland continued. “We will begin the search for our next Badger basketball head coach immediately.”
