University of Hartford head men’s basketball coach Aaron Toomey has announced the completion of his first staff.
Toomey has named former Union College assistant coach Kevin Weckworth and former College of New Jersey assistant coach Matthew Kittner as men’s basketball assistant coaches.
“I am thrilled to bring in two high-level coaches that will be able to help us recruit, retain and develop our student-athletes,” said Toomey. “One of the priorities in filling our staff was experience at the Division III level, and both Kevin and Matthew bring that to our staff.”
Weckworth comes to Hartford after spending the past five seasons at his alma mater. He served as the recruiting coordinator and the head of player development for the Dutchmen. As a player, he helped lead Union to back-to-back Liberty League Championships during his four-year career. A two-year captain, he finished his career 10th in scoring with 1,350 points, seventh in free-throws made (300), and eighth in three-pointers made.
Kittner was a three-year assistant at the College of New Jersey before moving to the Hartford bench. He was a part of the staff that helped guide TCNJ to the 2020-21 NJAC regular season championship. As the lead assistant, Kittner was the lead recruiting coordinator for the Lions. In his tenure, he coached an NJAC Player of the Year, a first-team All-NJAC honoree, three second-team NJAC honorees, and a third-team NABC All-American. Two of his players at NJAC went on to play professionally overseas.
Hartford begins the 2023-24 season November 10, hosting Baruch College inside the Chase Family Arena at the Reich Family Pavilion.
