D3 NEWS: Sutton added as Assistant Basketball Coach at Alfred University

The Alfred University men’s basketball team announced the addition of Jake Sutton to their coaching staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

Sutton most recently spent time with PennWest University at Clarion, receiving his master’s degree in business administration in June of 2023. While with the Eagles, Sutton additionally served as the Graduate Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach. Sutton oversaw day-to-day basketball operations with the program and assisted in recruiting both the 2022-23 and 2023-24 recruiting classes.

“We’re so excited for Jake to join our program,” Men’s Basketball Head Coach Erich Kaempffe said. “Our guys are going to benefit greatly from working with Jake and I know they’ll enjoy the time they spend with him. Jake is a good person, incredibly hardworking, and I know he’ll do everything he can to elevate our program in all areas.”

Sutton previously graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, earning his degree in sports and recreation management. With the Panthers, Sutton was named as the Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach during the 2020-21 season.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Alfred University Basketball!” Sutton said. “I’d like to thank Associate VP for Student Experience, Athletics & Recreation Deb Steward and Head Coach Erich Kaempffe for the opportunity to join Alfred Athletics. I’m honored to work aside Coach Kaempffe and Coach Gelb. I want to help continue the program’s recent successes on and off the court led by them.”

Sutton, a native of Clarion, PA, was additionally involved with YMCA of Corry as the Youth Basketball Clinic Director in 2017. He was in charge of instructing an 8-week summer session to develop basketball skills for youth players.
