Daily Dirt – 10/20/11

Pretty quiet out there with practice in full swing, but there are a few things that I’ve heard over the last couple of days….

Waycross College (GA) assistant Jamie Brooks has departed and will become the head coach at Southside Christian HS (GA). He will be replaced on the Waycross staff by former Georgia Tech player Ty Anderson.

From two sources…Dennis Dubois, who has worked with the New York Gauchos AAU will be named as the head coach at Hillside (NJ) HS. He has also worked at St. Benedict’s under current Wagner head coach Danny Hurley. The school board is expected to approve the hiring as early as Friday.

Cal head coach Mike Montgomery will undergo an unspecified surgical procedure. No details have been given as the school has asked to respect Coach Montgomery’s privacy. In the interim, assistants Travis DeCuire and Jay John will run practices and the daily operations of the program. We wish Coach Montgomery a speedy recovery.

Love this story….St. Mary’s University (Canada) head coach Ross Quackenbush has announced that he will retire at the end of the season. He has been at the school since 1989 with a career record of 283-216. His reason for retiring…..he and his wife want to spend more time skiing! At least he’s honest. I really don’t know anything about skiing, or feel that I would enjoy it, but more power to you Coach Q – may you cruise the moguls of the bunny slopes with the wind at your back. http://www.thechronicleherald.ca/sports/26075-quackenbush-re…
