Daily Dirt – 11/30/11

November is finally coming to a close…it feels like it’s been a long season already! Here are a few things that I wanted to keep everyone updated on….

Sounds like a pretty crazy situation at East Central University (OK). A few weeks back, ECU announced that they had parted ways with head coach Joe Redmond after they began an investigation into possible NCAA violations in its athletic program tied to basketball recruiting. Now, according to my sources, Redmond has technically been “suspended with pay”. I don’t have any idea of how this will play out, but I have heard that Redmond has hired an attorney in an attempt to keep his job. In the meantime, assistant Rodney McConnell will continue to coach the team.

I reported last month that Ian McKeithen would be named as the first-ever head basketball coach at Benedictine University at Springfield. The college has finally made the official announcement – McKeithen is the choice. Thanks to a great source on this one. Here’s the official release:

An update on St. John’s head coach Steve Lavin……He did an interview today with WFAN in New York. He says that is cancer free, but may have returned too early to the sidelines. He will remain out for now, and be patient with his plans to return. Here’s the transcript of the interview:

The mess at Syracuse continues….Bernie Fine has been officially fired and now the Feds are investigating. More on that from the New York Daily News:
