Daily Dirt – 11/9/11

Here are a few things that I’ve heard as we get ready to begin the season….

Recently hired Chowan assistant J.R. Reid is on the move. According to a great source, he will be leaving his volunteer spot at Chowan for a full-time position at Patrick Henry Community College (VA). Reid is a former North Carolina standout and the #5 pick in the 1989 NBA draft. He scored 5,680 points 12-year NBA career. He has been trying to get into coaching for a while, and seems very happy to have landed a full-time gig.

I have heard that Daniel Webster College (NH) has named Jimmy Oakman as an assistant coach. He is a graduate of Umass-Amherst and this will be his first college coaching job. Look for an official announcement on this one shortly.

Good luck to all the coaches out there who begin play this week. I know that I am excited to open our season on Friday!
