A few things that I’ve heard over the past few days…

• It sounds like Old Dominion AD Wood Selig is starting to formulate his plan on a replacement for the recently fired Blaine Taylor. I’ve heard that he will form a search committee this week – sounds like he will not go with a national search firm. It also sounds like they will target someone with experience as a head coach (although they wouldn’t rule out the “right” assistant).

• Rutgers head coach Mike Rice has received a vote of confidence from AD Tim Pernetti after last night’s win over Seton Hall. He will still apparently be evaluated after the season, but it appears that his job is safe for now. • Kudos to Penn State head coach Pat Chambers who will donate $10 to THON 2013 for every Penn State student that attends the Nittany Lions’ Thursday night clash with Iowa in the Jordan Center. The world’s largest student run philanthropy, THON raised a record of more than $10.6 million last year and has raised more than $89 million since its inception in 1977 to support the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. I’m not a math major, but this looks like it could be a pretty sizeable donation on his part – good for him!

• Our thoughts are with St. John’s head coach Steve Lavin after the passing of his father Albert “Cap” Lavin this past weekend. Lavin will miss his second straight game on Thursday (vs. Louisville) – assistant coach Rico Hines will fill in once again.
