Daily Dirt – 2/16/12

From the Desk of The DirtKing….

The search at Northern Arizona has hit a speed bump. AD Jim Fallis announced on Tuesday that he is resigning – this will definitely slow down the search at NAU. It would be pretty tough to hire a coach without an AD. I’ve heard that the committee is in place, but are in a holding pattern until further notice. Should be a pretty interesting process here.

Speaking of searches…sounds like UNC-Greensboro has enlisted the services of a search firm to aid in their quest to replace Mike Dement. UNCG has decided to go with Academic Search from Washington, DC (I am a bit surprised that they didn’t go with Eddie Fogler’s firm – they were on fire last year)! Interim head coach Wes Miller has done a great job, and it sounds like he will be in the mix, but AD Kim Record and Academic Search will definitely be aggressive in finding the right fit.

Following up on last night’s blog about Robert Burke being placed on leave at Mount St. Mary’s….I’ve heard that AD Lynne Robinson will address the situation tonight before the game vs. FDU. I’m not sure the exact reason for the leave, but according to people close to the situation, it sounds like Burke may be done at the school. More on this after the update tonight from Robinson.

Here’s a great story that a ton of readers have been submitting to us….Washington College head coach Rob Nugent showed some big-time class during his squads 83-69 defeat at Gettysburg last week. The Baltimore Sun tells the story way better than I could – definitely a “feel good” story and worth the read: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/college/basketball/mens/b…

Another article that piqued my interest….The Washington Post talks to former Boston University head coach Dennis Wolff about his transition to the women’s game (he is now the head WBB coach at Virginia Tech). It’s pretty interesting to hear his take on the differences between coaching the women as opposed to the men: http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/former-mens-basketball-…
