Daily Dirt – 2/21/12

Here are a few things that I heard while celebrating George Washington’s birthday yesterday….

Sounds like former Southern Illinois head coach Rich Herrin is getting back into the business. Herrin is going to become the first-ever head coach at Morthland College (IL). He went 225-176 as the head coach at SIU from 1985-1998. He most recently was the head coach at Marion High School before he retired in 2007. I’m no math major, but according to the NCAA, he was born in 1933 which would make him 79 years old.

Former Concordia College(NE) assistant Anthony Elias has been named as the head coach at Blue Mountain CC (OR). Elias resigned earlier this season from Concordia. Glad to see that he’s landed on his feet so quickly. He will replace Larry Bartee at the helm of the Timberwolves.

With many DIII’s having their seasons end this past weekend, I expect the coaching carousel to start spinning a little faster in the next few weeks. We will stay on top of all of the comings and goings, so be sure to keep checking HoopDirt.com regularly for the latest.
