Like I said earlier in the week – small college seasons coming to an end will get the coaching carousel spinning. So far this week, three small college jobs have opened up. Ted Quinn was released at Nyack, Gene Gifford was not retained at Olivet, and Northland’s Rob Robinson resigned. You can find all of these stories in our news section, and as soon as the jobs are officially posted, they will be up in the jobs section (Olivet is already up).
Here are a few things that I came across today that I found interesting….
Here’s the video of Lamar head coach Pat Knight going off on his seniors in a post game press conference on Thursday. He has received some criticism for being too harsh, but I kind of like it. Tell it like it is Coach Knight! http://www.foxsportshouston.com/pages/video?videoid=8fb41e94…
Wake Forest head coach Jeff Bzdelik had to apologize to a Miami fan who he cursed at last week during the Demon Deacons game at Miami. This is definitely a hard situation to be in. I was in a similar situation this season – a fan was shouting obscenities at one of our players as we were walking off the court after a loss. As much as I wanted to tell here what I thought of her, and where she could shove her foam finger, I didn’t (a younger me probably would have). I guess restraint is best – definitely better than writing a letter of apology. Here’s the story: http://myfox8.com/2012/02/24/wake-forest-basketball-coach-ap…
Speaking of Wake – many thought Bzdelik was on the hot seat – not according to AD Ron Wellman however. Wellman made it clear that Bzdelik will return for the 2012-13 season in a statement on Wednesday. While I think there will be a lot of coaching movement in the off-season at the DI level, I think the ACC will be very quiet. This was one that I thought may open, but looks like Bzdelik is safe for now. http://www2.journalnow.com/sports/2012/feb/24/wssport01-well…
