Daily Dirt – 2/5/13

• I appreciate all of the kind words after my Jerry Maguire moment yesterday. I received a ton of emails, tweets, and submissions from our readers. Thanks for your support!

• Multiple sources have told me that a deal may be in the works to keep Jim Crews at St. Louis. He was named as the interim head coach back in August – just before Rick Majerus passed away. Crews has led the Billikens to a 16-5 (5-2 A-10) so far this season. I have heard that the deal would be for at least four years. If I’m a betting man however, I’d put money on AD Chris May waiting until after the season to make a decision (or announcement) here.

• Not sure what’s going on at Maine-Machias…I can confirm that Tito Arias is no longer the head coach there, but I don’t know the whole story. It sounds like one of the assistants has taken over for the remainder of the season.

• I can confirm that East Central (OK) head coach Mac McConnell has been reinstated following his suspension last month after a DUI arrest. He returned to practice yesterday, and will coach the team tonight vs. Southern Arkansas.

• Interesting situation during the Arkansas State – North Texas game on Saturday. It sounds like Arkansas State head coach John Brady and North Texas head coach Tony Benford got into it during the game. Brady is accusing Benford of cursing at him. Apparently UNT AD Rick Villarreal is looking in to the matter to see if any action should be taken.
