Another busy day here at the HD World Headquarters. Here are a few things that I’ve heard…MUCH more coming…
• As the search to replace Jerome Allen begins at Penn, many believe that former Cornell and BC head coach Steve Donahue is the leader…I’m not one of those guys however. From what I hear, he is not a lay-up to get this one (and may in fact not even want it). I have heard that Colgate head coach Matt Langel (a Penn alum) and NJIT head coach Jim Engles (former Ivy League assistant at Columbia) will both get some play here. Obviously it’s early with this one (and a search firm may be involved) – I will let you know as I hear more.
• Another search is the early stage is the one at Liberty. One name being tossed around a lot here is Appalachian State assistant Jason Allison (a Liberty alum). After nine seasons as an assistant at VMI, Allison joined the App St. staff last spring. Liberty is a very religious Christian school, and will be looking for a candidate that will embrace their values.
• The Farmingdale State (NY) job is posted on the schools website. I’ve got it from a great source however that the posting is just a formality. When head coach Brendan Twomey was hired last year, his job was classified as part-time by the State of New York. For Twomey to become full-time permanent employee, the job has to be posted (I’m always amazed how HR – especially at state schools work…). Twomey will be officially made full-time when the posting expires.
• I have heard that Flagler College (FL) assistant Jake Pickett will not return next season. He was hired in 2012 as the program’s first full-time assistant coach. Pickett served as the assistant coach at Limestone College for four seasons before that. It sounds like there are a bunch of guys already involved with this one.
• Busy day on the women’s side today as well…remember to check out our women’s site WhoopDirt (http://www.whoopdirt.com……) for all of the latest news, rumors, and jobs in the WBB world.
