A Full Day of Basketball and Coaching Carousel Updates

An action-packed day of basketball awaits, with 11 games tipping off between 11:30 AM and 3:30 PM. Safe to say, office productivity might take a hit! Also, keep an eye out for those late Friday afternoon news dumps—I’m setting the over/under at 2.5 coaching changes today. Stay tuned for updates.

Radford Coaching Search Nearing Conclusion

The coaching search at Radford appears to be in its final stages, with a decision expected as early as today, but no later than Monday. Earlier this week, I mentioned that Radford had spoken with current RU assistant Shane Nichols and Virginia Tech assistant J.D. Byers. Now, sources indicate they have also interviewed Notre Dame Associate Head Coach Kyle Getter, a former Radford assistant. More details to come as this search wraps up.

Another Search in the Final Stages at Campbell

Campbell’s search is nearing an end, with Florida assistant John Andrzejek (mentioned earlier this week), and Miami assistant Kotie Kimball emerging as the final two candidates. Kimball has spent the past three seasons with the Hurricanes and previously held assistant roles at Charlotte, William & Mary, and UNC Asheville.

Penn’s Coaching Search Unaffected by Hiring Freeze

It sounds like the current hiring freeze won’t affect the men’s basketball search at Penn. According to an email sent to the Penn community, “staff hiring will be frozen, except for critical positions.” I’ve heard that this will be considered one of those critical positions. An interesting name circulating for the role is Manhattan head coach John Gallagher, a former Penn assistant (2008-10) who also served as Hartford’s head coach for 12 seasons. Additionally, NYU head coach and Penn alum Dave Klatsky is gaining traction. His Violets, currently 26-1 and competing in the NCAA D3 Tournament, boast an impressive 65-15 (.813) record under his leadership.

Dion Bethea Returns to Gray Collegiate Academy

Georgia Southern assistant Dion Bethea is on the move, returning to Gray Collegiate Academy (SC), where he previously won 273 games and six state championships. He had joined Charlie Henry’s staff at Georgia Southern prior to this season.

Search Firm Update

Collegiate Consulting has taken the reins on the men’s basketball coaching search at D2 Missouri Western, following the resignation of Will Martin earlier this week.

Florida Southwestern Update

Contrary to earlier reports, the head coaching position at Florida Southwestern remains unchanged. The interim head coach is still in place, and the job has neither been posted nor opened.

Other Openings and Updates

in case you missed these from earlier this week, a few schools that have opened with no announcements:

  • D3 Openings: Baruch and McMurry have opened (D3 DIRT).
  • JUCO Openings: Northwest Mississippi and Co-Lin are now open (JUCO DIRT).
  • New England D3 Opening: A significant D3 program in New England has reportedly opened (not in the NESCAC). More details coming soon.
