Daily Dirt – 3/15/23

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

Just a few mid-week rumblings – working on a bunch more…

I have heard that ETSU is starting to talk to candidates this week. The top name that I’ve heard here is UNC Asheville’s Mike Morrell. He led UNCA to 27 wins, and a Big South title this season. His squad has a match-up with UCLA tomorrow in the first round of the NCAA tourney. Other names making the rounds include, Wake Forest assistant Brooks Savage (a former ETSU assistant), North Alabama head coach Tony Pujol, and former George Washington / Siena / Mount Saint Mary’s head coach Jamion Christian.

Back on 3/11, I mentioned that Virginia Tech assistant Kevin Giltner is deep in the mix at Wofford (Daily Dirt – 3/11/23). I still hear that he’s at the top of the list here, but also hearing that interim head coach Dwight Perry hasn’t been eliminated. Former Chattanooga head coach and current D2 Alabama Huntsville head coach John Shulman also being mentioned here, but seems like Giltner and Perry are 1-2 right now.

Prepare for every D2 and D3 head coach in New England with a good record to have their name mentioned on Twitter surrounding the search at New hampshire. I’ll roll with any legit names when I have them.

Chad Kline has been hired as the new head basketball coach / AD at NJCAA D2 Southeast Arkansas. Kline is the former head coach at Arkansas Tech, Dyersburg State, and Frank Phillips College. Next season will be SEARK’s inaugural season.

I can confirm that Mingo Scott is no longer the head coach at Big Bend CC (WA). Scott had been the Vikings head coach for the past six seasons. Long-time college basketball coach John Meeks in now the AD at Big Bend – expect a lot of good names to be involved with this one.
