Daily Dirt – 3/21/12

Today’s “Daily Dirt”….

Interesting situation developing at Florida Atlantic….head coach Mike Jarvis has about two weeks remaining on his contract. A few weeks ago, it sounded like AD Craig Angelos was going to work out a deal to have Jarvis return – things change quickly in this business however. I’ve just heard that Angelos himself will not have his contract renewed. So basically, he is out, and Jarvis has an expiring contract. I’ll be very interested to see where this one goes.

I mentioned in my blog yesterday to keep an eye on the situation at Odessa College (TX). Looks like the grumblings that I was hearing have come to fruition…head coach Dennis Helms has been told that his contract will not be renewed when it expires in August. Helms went 158-59 during his seven years as the head coach of the Wranglers. I’ve heard that assistant coach Zack Janus will assume the role of interim head coach and help wrap-up the recruiting season while the search begins for a full-time replacement.

I’ve heard that the open assistant job at Black Hills State will be filled by an internal candidate. The position opened when assistant Tim Collins moved into the administrative side- he accepted a spot as the Assistant AD for Development/Fundraising.
