Daily Dirt – 3/22/12

Here are few things that I’ve heard today….

I can confirm that Mark Sembrowich is no longer the head coach at Academy of Art University (CA). I don’t know the whole story here, but I can also confirm that assistant Julius Barnes has assumed the role of interim head coach. Sembrowich has spent the past three seasons at the university – he was 9-79 over that span. It sounds like the search has already begun.

It sounds like Kennesaw State has lost another assistant. First-year head coach Lewis Preston lost assistant Mike Smith midway through the season. Now word comes that Tim Morris is no longer part of the staff. Morris was a GA at Alabama before joining the staff at KSU last spring. Jimmy Lallathin is the only remaining assistant on staff.

I keep hearing Mercer head coach Bob Hoffman’s name mentioned with the search at Tulsa. Hoffman is an Oklahoma City native who spent time as an assistant at Oklahoma. He was also the head coach at Oklahoma Baptist and Florida Pan American. His Mercer squad won 25 games this season and he holds a career record of 383-217 (18 seasons). Also, Kansas assistant Joe Dooley’s name is in the mix as well. Sounds like he is getting a lot of backing from his current boss (and former Tulsa head coach) Bill Self for this gig.

I’ve heard that the job posting at Salt Lake CC is just a formality. After head coach Todd Phillips had the interim tag removed a few weeks ago, the assistant job needed to be officially posted. According to good sources, assistant Paul Marble will remain on the staff. Marble had been a volunteer assistant with the program for seven seasons before assuming the paid role before last season.
