Daily Dirt – 3/24/15

Keeping an eye on Arizona State – will have more on that in a few hours. Here are a bunch of things that I have heard already today…

• NEVADA: We were the first to report yesterday that LSU associate head coach Eric Musselman was emerging as the leader here. Our sources still tell us that he is the #1 target. It sounds like the other two finalists are Kentucky special assistant Tony Barbee and Arizona associate head coach Joe Pasternack. As we reported last week, we expect the announcement some time shortly after Nevada’s BOT meeting on Thursday.

• SAN DIEGO: Word on the street is that the top two choices, Musselman (an alum), and former Cavs and Lakers head coach Mike Brown (also an alum), have both politely passed on this one. I have heard that USD is now using Carr for their search, and have begun to identify candidates. One name that has started to emerge here is Cal State San Marcos head coach Jim Saia. The former USC and UCLA assistant has also been the head coach at Fresno Pacific.

• DePAUL: A few names that are gaining some steam are Buffalo head coach Bobby Hurley, and former NBA player Lindsey Hunter. Hurley has also been linked to the job at Fordham, but many believe that he would not take it. Hunter was the 10th pick in the 1993 NBA draft, and played for five teams over his 17-year career. He has been an assistant in the NBA with the Warriors and the Suns.

• FORDHAM: Two more names starting to surface here…Robert Morris head coach Andy Toole and Albany head coach Will Brown. Both coaches won their leagues this season and played in the NCAA Tournament. (RMU won the NEC, Albany won the AE). Parker is handling this search.

• BRADLEY: Yesterday I mentioned Michigan State’s Dane Fife here (http://www.hoopdirt.com/blog/a6c1cc1b/daily-dirt-3-23-15/…). Another name that has started to emerge is Georgetown assistant Tavaras Hardy. He and new Bradley AD Chris Reynolds were together recently at Northwestern. More on this search as it develops.

• KENNESAW STATE: With Jimmy Lallathin being dismissed yesterday, KSU is now searching for their 3rd coach in 2 years. Word on the street is that interim head coach David Rivers (an assistant at KSU this past season) has the support of the players and has a very realistic shot of getting the job on a permanent basis. Rivers, a former All-American at Notre Dame, joined the KSU staff last April. Curious to see if a search takes place here.
