A few things I picked up today – more to come later…

• I have heard that Marquette assistant Jerry Wainwright will not be joining Buzz Williams at Virginia Tech. Wainwright spent the past two seasons on Williams staff and had previously served as a DI head coach at DePaul, Richmond, UNC-Wilmington. Sounds like he will try to latch on somewhere, but that somewhere won’t be Blacksburg.

• I can confirm that Illinois-Springfield will not retain head coach Ben Wierzba. He had been at the helm for the past four seasons and compiled a 41-67 record. Wierzba has previously been an assistant at Evansville, and the DBO at Army.

• The name that I have heard more than once today surrounding the vacant Adelphi job is that of former Hofstra head coach Mo Cassara. He is a Long Island resident who has been out of coaching since he finished up at Hofstra after last season. Cassara was also an assistant at Boston College and the head coach at Clark University (MA).
