Names starting to surface at Southern. The two names making the most early noise there are Glynn Cyprien (was at Georgia Southern last year – has been at a ton of other schools, including Kentucky, Arkansas, and Texas A&M) and Kevin Johnson (assistant at Tulane). It sounds like those already interviewed late last week. I’ve also heard former FIU and Norfolk State head coach Anthony Evans mentioned here.
Back on 3/22 (DAILY DIRT), I mentioned a bunch of names at NC A&T. I have now heard that Wake Forest assistant B.J. McKie is involved, and may have been on campus last last week. The former standout at South Carolina has been at Wake since 2020, and has also been at ETSU, and Charleston Southern.
Jon Rothstein has reported that Mark Madsen is the leader at Cal. He currently has Utah Valley (28-8) in the NIT semifinals. The former standout at Stanford, spent 9-seasons in the NBA with the Lakers and T-Wolves. He is 70-50 (.583) in his 4 season at Utah Valley, with 48 of those wins coming in the last two seasons.
With Sam Houston’s Jason Hooten now at New Mexico State, I’ve heard that SHSU associate head coach Chris Mudge has a ton of support from not just the current players, but administrators on campus and boosters. It sounds like if he’s the choice, it will be done early this week.
A name picking up legit steam over the past 48 hours at Buffalo is Xavier associate head coach Adam Cohen. The Buffalo native has long been rumored to be involved here, but the chatter has really started to pick up this weekend. He has also been an assistant at Stanford, Vandy, and Harvard. Other names already mentioned here include Northwest Missouri head coach Ben McCollum, and Michigan assistant Saddi Washington. At least two other really good names lurking though, including one current head coach. It sounds like this one could be done by the end of the week.
It sounds like UNH is starting some Zoom interviews. Working on legit names now…
I have heard that the search at D2 Trevecca nazarene is down to the final group. A couple names that I’ve heard are Lipscomb assistant Kevin Carroll (former head coach at D2 Maryville University-St. Louis), and a current head coach from the same conference that TNU is in. More on this one as I hear it.
The search at D3 University of Valley Forge is moving along, and it sounds like on-campus interviews will begin next week. Some names that I’ve heard are: Dominique Boone (former Head coach at Warren Wilson), Eric Houston (former WBB head coach at Eastern University), and Jordan Martz (assistant coach at Gannon University).
I have heard that Zoom interviews at D2 Edward Waters start this week. At least two current NAIA head coaches in the mix. Working on other names as well.
Chasing down rumors of a current D2 head coach in the midwest who is on paid leave. Doesn’t sound good – stay tuned…
