Some late night Sunday Dirt…
I have heard that in person interviews start this week at Georgia State. It sounds like former Boston College head coach Earl Grant and former UNCG head coach Mike Jones are in play here. Grant spent the past five seasons at BC, and was the head coach at Charleston before that. Jones was at UNCG for the last five years as well, and was the head coach at Radford prior to that.
The HOT name at Dartmouth right now is Stanford assistant Brett MacConnell. Prior to joining the Stanford staff last spring, MacConnell spent 12 seasons on the staff at Princeton. Other names I’ve mentioned here over the past week include: Landry Kosmalski (Campbell), Dave Klatsky (Florida), Nick Whitmore (Wyoming), and Brandon Linton (Tufts). Sounds like this could wrap up as early as this week.
Tony Matlock officially resigned as the head coach at Alabama State today. He is rumored to be joining Penny Hardaway’s staff at Memphis. Matlock is a Memphis native, University of Memphis alum, and was on the Tigers staff as an assistant from 2018-21.
Clemson head coach Brad Brownell didn’t waste time filling his three open assistant spots. According to Tiger Illustrated, Brownell will add: Chris Harriman (College of Charleston), Chad Warner (Minnesota), and Andre Morgan (Cincinnati).
No secrets here, but all signs pointing to the following:
NC State: Justin Gainey (Tennessee Associate Head Coach – NC State alum)
Charleston: John Groce (Akron Head Coach)
Barring anything unforeseen, both should wrap early this week.
The Siena search has gotten interesting…former Washington head coach (and long-time Syracuse assistant) Mike Hopkins was hot here for about 24-hours – now apparently he’s out. Other names rumored to have interviewed here include Vermont head coach John Becker and Marquette assistant Nevada Smith. Could be a D2 head coach involved here as well as a former Siena head coach lurking…
Small college search updates:
It sounds like D2 Auburn Montgomery is done. All indications pointing to a sitting D2 head coach here. More on this soon.
D3 Mary Baldwin is hosting on-campus interviews this week. Sounds like Guilford assistant Bryan Mathews is in the mix here along with 2-3 others.
D3 Alvernia is doing Zoom interviews this week, with on campus interviews expected next week. Names I’ve heard here include Hood College assistant Luke Summers and two current D3 head coaches (one from NY, one from PA). Sounds like 2-3 more as well.
D3 King’s College (PA) had interviews late last week, and one more on Monday. Sounds like decision is coming by the end of this week. Working on names now.
Monster (MONSTER) NAIA opening shortly. Head coach taking D1 assistant spot…stay tuned.
