Daily Dirt – 3/5/20

Some things that I’ve heard today…

  • An odd situation developing at Sacramento State…head coach Brian Katz, who currently has the Hornets sitting at 15-13 with one game to go, is in the last year of his contract. According to multiple sources, Katz has been told on several occasions that an extension was in the works and that he was secure in his role. Now, that may not be the case, and it sounds like the administration is going back on their word. There is a lot more to this one – working on it now…

  • Very early names at SEMO making the rounds: Creighton assistant Paul Lusk (former head coach at Missouri State), Murray State assistant Shane Nichols, and former Southern Illinois head coach Barry Hinson (currently serving in an advising role at Oklahoma State). Obviously really early here though.

  • Early Western Illinois names to keep an eye on: Central Michigan assistant Chris Tifft (from the area) and Illinois staffer Geoff Alexander (an alum). Again, very early here too. More as this one starts to move…

  • Converse College (SC) is adding men’s basketball (D2 Conference Carolinas). I have heard that the on-campus interview list has been set, and those could start as early as next week.
  • It’s been busy at the JUCO level so far. Top 5 open jobs: Dodge City (KS), Garden City (KS), Iowa Western, Missouri West Plains, and Paris (TX) – honorable mention to Temple (TX).
