DAILY DIRT – 3/8/24

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

Starting to get busy out there. Here are a few things that I’ve heard…

Some search firm updates – I will add these to the running list that I am keeping HERE.

  • Detroit Mercy –  Collegiate Sports Associates
  • IUPUI – SP Athletics / Jon LeCrone (LeCrone is the former Commissioner of the Horizon League)
  • D2 Lenoir-Rhyne – Mammoth Sports Consulting / Kurt Patberg

I’ve also started to track some of the search firms for open women’s jobs, so will add that Brian Stanchak / BDS Agency has the D3 Wheaton College (MA) search.

The search to replace Jeff Price at D2 Lynn is moving quickly. I have heard from multiple people that there were 8-10 initial Zoom interviews over the last few weeks. That group has now been narrowed down to 3 or 4, with on campus interviews starting sometime in the next two weeks. Sounds like they want to have a new coach on board by April 1.

D3 Buffalo State is apparently casting a wide net in their search. I have heard that upwards of 25 coaches may be interviewed in the initial round of 10 minute Zoom interviews as they look to narrow it down. I know of a bunch of NY area coaches involved, including multiple JUCO head coaches. WIll have a better idea here once the speed dating round is over.

I have heard from a great source that D3 Centenary College (NJ) intends to remove the interim tag from Chris Labelle. Labelle took over for Dirk Kelly back in November. More on this one when it becomes official.

The search at D3 Allegheny is underway. Josh Clemens was promoted to interim head coach in late August – I have been told that he will be in the mix for the permanent job, but they are interviewing other candidates. It sounds like 10 or so initial phone interviews will take place next week.

It sounds like NAIA Huston-Tillotson head coach Thomas Henderson is stepping away from basketball, but will remain as the Director of Athletics at the school. He has been the head coach there since 2012, and stepped in to the AD role last fall. More on this once it becomes official.

ICYMI from yesterday: Still no press release from NJCAA D2 Iowa Central, but I can confirm the job is open. More HERE.

If you’re not following me on X (not sure why you aren’t), here are my Friday firing odds (with a special Sunday prop):

You can check out the 2024 Coaching Changes Tracker presented by D1.relocation HERE. It contains all of the head coaching changes so far at the NCAA D1, D2, D3, NAIA, and JUCO levels.
