Daily Dirt – 3/28/17

A few things to start the day…

  • I have heard that Joe Mazzulla is the leader for the vacant Fairmont State (Wva.) job. He played for both John Beilein and Bob Huggins during his career at West Virginia. He also spent three seasons as an assistant coach to Jerrod Calhoun at Fairmont State. This past season, Mazzula served as an assistant with the Maine Red Claws (D-League).
  • It sounds like current Akron assistant Rick McFadden is in the mix to replace his former boss Keith Dambrot who got the Duquesne job yesterday. McFadden, a former player at Akron, has been on the zips staff for the past 12 seasons (they have won 21+ games each season that McFadden has been on staff). Another sneaky name here is current Wisconsin associate head coach Lamont Paris. The Ohio native spent five seasons as an assistant at Akron (2005-10).
  • I have heard that former UMass and Drexel head coach Bruiser Flint is involved at LIU. In 20 seasons as a DI head coach, he has compiled a 331-289 record.
  • Greg Graham and Silvey Dominguez are out as assistant coaches at Washington State. Graham had been an assistant to Kent at both St. Mary’s and Oregon, and also spent eight seasons as the head coach at Boise State. Dominguez also served with Kent at St. Mary’s and has had a ton of other D1 stops.
  • Cal State Long Beach Director of Player Development Jay Morris is involved with a a spot on new head coach Wyking Jones’ staff at Cal. He is a former assistant at Cal State Northridge and Nevada.
