Daily Dirt – 4/11/23

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

A beautiful day down here in Charlotte. Here are a few things that I’ve heard while spending time with some great people…

Some staff changes at San Jose State. I can confirm that Trent Miyagishina is no longer the Spartans DBO. He started as a manager at the college and eventually became the video coordinator in 2017, and was promoted to DBO a year after that. One more move coming there as well – stay tuned…

Multiple people have told me that Nathan Davis is close to adding former Army head coach Jimmy Allen to his new staff at UNH. Allen had spent the past seven seasons at Army, and was dismissed after winning 17 games this past season. Like Davis, Allen has also been a D3 head coach, spending six seasons as the head coach at Averett.

Back on 3/28 (DAILY DIRT), I mentioned that Kris Arkenberg was headed to ETSU, but also teased that he wasn’t the only New Orleans assistant on the move. It’s now official – Privateers assistant Jody Bailey has also departed the staff and has been named as the head coach at University Christian School in Jacksonville, FL. Bailey had been at UNO since 2015 and was the head coach at Jacksonville College before that. No word on possible replacements yet.

I have heard that Zoom’s have started at D2 Western New Mexico. It sounds like 7-8 coaches will be interviewed. Some names that I’ve heard include current WNMU assistant Jared Blake, Angelo State assistant Mark Rutledge, Texas A&M assistant Omar Gonzalez, and two current JUCO head coaches. Working on the other names now.

I’ve heard that D2 Southern Nazarene is done – working to confirm the name.

I have heard that Zoom interviews are complete at Wisconsin Stevens Point. It sounds like 3-4 guys interviewed. Names that I have heard include Freddie Owens (spent last season as an assistant at Green Bay), and at least two current D3 head coaches – one from Wisconsin, and one from Minnesota.

Yesterday, I mentioned that Zooms are underway at NAIA LSU Alexandria. Some names that I’ve heard include Langston University assistant Chris Vincent, Nicholls State assistant Darion Brown, and a current NAIA head coach from the South Central region. Working on the last two names.

Western Iowa Tech CC is starting basketball, and they have hired CoCo Cofield as their new head coach. He had spent the past nine seasons as the head coach at Sioux City West HS. They will compete in the NJCAA.

ICYMI: NAIA/D3 DIRT from earlier today…D3 Eastern Naz opens as Logan Sharp heads to Johnson U (TN). More HERE.
