Daily Dirt – 4/12/22

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

I have heard that North Dakota will hire Randall Herbst as an assistant coach. Herbst most recently served as an assistant at D2 Minot State, and has been the associate head coach at Wisconsin Green Bay, and an assistant at Nebraska Omaha. The coaching veteran has also spent time as the head coach at NAIA UMary, and previously served as an assistant at North Dakota (2000-06). An official announcement is expected shortly.

Georgia Tech assistant coach Eric Reveno is headed to Oregon State as an assistant. He has been at Georgia Tech since 2016, and was the head coach at Portland for ten seasons before that. Reveno is familiar with the Pac-12, having played at Stanford, and then spending nine seasons (1997-2006) as an assistant there. More on this when it becomes official.

D2 Lincoln University (MO) is announcing their new head coach today. Sources tell me the choice here looks to be Central Florida Director of Basketball Operations Jimmy Drew. He played at Southeast Missouri and DePaul, and has been on the UCF staff since 2016. New Lincoln AD Kevin Wilson was an administrator at UCF from 2016-19. More on this once the official announcement is made later today.

Some names that I’ve heard in the final group at D2 East Central include: Northeastern State assistant Lucas Hunter, Central Oklahoma assistant Daniel Wheeler, and a current D2 head coach. Working on other names. Sounds like this one could be wrapped up shortly.

Phone interviews at D3 Berry College are underway. Some names making the rounds include: NC Central assistant Nigel Thomas, Randolph-Macon associate head coach Dave Matturro, Wabash assistant Matthew Richter (a former Berry assistant), and a current D3 head coach. More names as I hear them.

ICYMI…from last night: D2 D’Youville (NY) set to open. More HERE.
