Daily Dirt – 4/15/22

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

Here’s Friday’s Daily Dirt…

A couple new names surfacing in the search at Elon. I have heard from multiple sources that Iowa assistant Billy Taylor is involved. He has been at Iowa for the past four years, and was the head coach at D2 Belmont Abbey (NC), and Ball State before that. I have also heard from a bunch of guys that a non-D1 head coach is squarely in the mix and making noise there.

I can confirm that Jeff Rafferty is no longer an assistant at NJIT. Rafferty had been at NJIT since 2016, after spending nine seasons at Delaware. He has also worked at New Hampshire at UMass Lowell. Sounds like there will be another move there as well.

I have that D2 Metro State is down to two or three. Names that I have heard include former Green Bay head coach Linc Darner. He also had a ton of success at the D2 level at St. Joseph’s (IN) and Florida Southern. Sounds like a current D2 head coach from out of the region is in the final group as well.

It sounds like Zoom interviews at D2 Angelo State have wrapped up, with on campus interviews expected to begin shortly. The names I mentioned earlier this week are still good – Lamar assistant Charles Harrall, current Angelo State associate head coach David Lewis, Sam Houston State associate head coach Chris Mudge, Troy assistant Mike Worley. Also hearing Darner’s names here as well as two current D2 head coaches.

Zoom invites went out from first round interviews at D3 Springfield College. Working on that list now.

A good JUCO in Texas has opened – more on this one shortly.
