Daily Dirt – 4/18/12

Here are a few things that I’ve heard…..

According to sources, Oral Roberts assistant Tom Hankins is departing for a similar position at Southern Illinois. Hankins has been at ORU for 14 seasons – 12 under current head coach, and 2 under new Southern Illinois head coach Barry Hinson.

Missouri coordinator of operations Tony Hanson is going to join the staff at Winthrop as an assistant. Hanson is a NC native who spent five seasons as the video coordinator at Wake Forest. New Winthrop head coach Pat Kelsey is a former Wake Forest assistant and the pair worked together there.

Brad Schmit has resigned as an assistant at Morningside College to pursue other coaching opportunities. Schmit had been at the school for 10 years (4 as a player, 1 as a volunteer assistant and 5 as the full-time top assistant). He leaves Morningside College as the All-time leading scorer in school history and a 10-year record of 193-126 (117-73 as a coach) including three NAIA National Tournament Appearances, 3 GPAC Conference Titles, and a GPAC Conference Post-Season Championship.

Sounds like Adjalma Becheli is in the mix to become the next head coach at the College of Eastern Utah. Becheli is currently an assistant with the women’s squad at CEU. Coach ”Vando” had spent two years as an assistant with the men’s team, and has also coached professionally in Brazil.

I’ve heard that Former Utah Valley head coach Jeff Reinert will become the head coach at Santa Margarita Catholic High School. In his 24-seasons at the college level, Reinert has worked as an assistant at Oregon State, Fresno State, BYU, and Nebraska.
