Daily Dirt – 4/2/19

Another busy day. Here we go (this is just a start – more coming)…

  • Yesterday, I mentioned that APSU assistant Rick Cabrera was interviewing at Tennessee Tech (confirmed that he was in yesterday). I have now heard that Ole Miss assistant Ronnie Hamilton has interviewed and it sounds like Murry Bartow will be in today. Hamilton spent four seasons at Middle Tennessee with Kermit Davis before following him to Ole Miss last spring. Bartow took over as the interim head coach at UCLA after Steve Alford was fired in December. He has previously served as the head coach at East Tennessee State and UAB.
  • It sounds like UCLA has been striking out all over the place. Could be on their second tier of candidates right now. TCU’s Jamie Dixon is being mentioned there, but keep an eye on Cincinnati’s Mick Cronin. He’s a hot commodity right now, and will be the early leader at Virginia Tech…
  • Some chatter surrounding LeVelle Moton at Georgia State. He’s been mentioned at a bunch of places over that past few years after all of the success that he’s had at NC Central. This could be the year for him to make a move. Stay tuned here…
  • I have heard that Ohio State assistant coach Mike Schrage interviewed at Elon yesterday. I have heard from a great source that this one is down to 4 candidates, and will most likely be wrapped up by the end of the week.
  • The search at William & Mary has been all over the place, but is getting closer to wrapping up. It sounds like they could be down to two finalists. I can confirm that Virginia assistant Jason Williford was involved, but has passed on the job. It now sounds like George Mason assistant Dane Fischer is the leader here, but is by no means done. I’ve also heard that there could be two current DIII head coaches lurking…
  • I can confirm that College of Southern Idaho head coach Jared Phay is no longer involved at Idaho State, after choosing to remain at CSI. Interviews at ISU are starting this week at the Final Four.
  • Stony Brook assistant Bryan Weber will not be following Jeff Boals to Ohio, and will be elevated to associate head coach on Geno Ford’s new staff. He has been on the Seawolves staff since 2016, and worked for the Hoop Group before that.

  • The search at DII Assumption College is now at the on campus interview stage. The names that I’ve heard who will be on campus are former Maine head coach Bob Walsh, former Quinnipiac assistant (and current Hamden Hall head coach) Sean Doherty, a current MM DI assistant, and a current DIII head coach who had a big-time season.
  • In case you missed it last night, DIRT from VANDY, a DII and a DIII school were all posted…
  • Since I don’t have enough going on in my life, I’ve decided to start my own personal Twitter account. I try to stick to confirmed rumors, news and jobs, etc. at HD. I’ll offer some more random thoughts and opinions about coaching changes and life HERE.
