Daily Dirt – 4/20/12

A bit late with the “dirt” today….I’ve been at home playing Mr. Mom (ugh)! A bunch of stuff to catch-up on….

• I can confirm that Xavier grad assistant Doug Davenport is headed to Louisville. He will assume an administrative role on Rick Pitino’s staff. Davenport’s father, Scott, is the head coach at Bellermine University (Louisville), and he’s a former Louisville assistant. He spent nine seasons with the Cardinals working for both Denny Crum and Rick Pitino.

• Interviews at Southern Mississippi are getting under way. According to a good source, Middle Tennessee State head coach Kermit Davis will meet with So. Miss interim AD Jeff Hammond either Monday or Tuesday. More interviews are expected to be scheduled through the week with the hopes of getting this done within 10 days.

• It sounds like former Boston College head coach Al Skinner is in the mix at Brown. Skinner is 385-291 in 22 seasons as a DI head coach – he spent 13 seasons at BC and 9 at URI. I’ve also heard that Brown is working with Parker Executive Search on this one. Probably not a good sign for current interim head coach TJ Sorrentine.

• From a great source….it appears that Southern Cal DBO Adam Cohen is involved with an assistant spot at Rice. Cohne has been at USC in various ops roles for the past three seasons. Rice is looking to replace Mike Roberts who departed for UNC-Greensboro a few weeks ago.

• I have heard from Multiple sources that Northland College will announce their new head coach on Monday. Word on the street is that former Simpson (IA) head coach Bruce Wilson is the choice. He went 341-305 in 25-seasons at the helm and has most recently been an assistant with the Iowa Energy NBDL.

• Talladega College announced the hiring of Matt Cross yesterday. Cross coached TC to a National Championship in 2008-2009 before departing for Lamar State – Port Arthur. Thanks to the people at TC for the HoopDirt “shout-out” at the beginning of the press conference yesterday! Here’s the video in case you missed it: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/21973571…

• A source has reported that Reco Dawson will be the new head coach at Central Georgia Technical College. Dawson has previously been an assistant at South Georgia Tech as well as Georgia Southwestern. He also works full-time at SGTC as a tutor/retention counselor.
