DAILY DIRT – 4/22/24

A bunch of things from the small college level…

I can confirm that Rich Casey will take over for this season as the head basketball coach at D3 Rosemont College. Casey, who is also the AD at Rosemont, had previously served as the head coach at Rowan College South Jersey Gloucester, Valley Forge Military Academy and College, Goldey-Beacom College, Neumann University, and Manor College. The official announcement will be made later this week.

I have now heard from multiple sources that former Coastal Carolina interim head coach Benny Moss will take over as the head coach at NJCAA D1 Gaston College (NC). Moss, who spent 13 seasons as an assistant at Coastal, took over as the interim HC following Cliff Ellis’ retirement this past December. He also spent four seasons as the head coach at UNC Wilmington (2006-10). An official announcement is expected this week.

It sounds like on-campus interviews are underway at D2 Georgian Court University. Two names that I have heard are Ryan Van Zelst (former head coach at Cabrini College), and Dave Fedor (former assistant at Robert Morris). Van Zelst has also been the head coach at Penn State Abington, and is no longer at Cabrini because the school is shutting its doors at the conclusion of this semester. Fedor had been on staff at RMU for past six seasons and previously served as the Director of Team Tournaments with the Hoop Group. He also spent the 2014-15 season as an assistant at GCU. More on this search as I hear it.

I have heard that the search at NAIA Taylor University (IN) is down to four finalists. Names that I have heard include Grace College assistant Jordan Weidner, Arizona Christian assistant Austin Peters, a current NAIA HC from Indiana, and a very successful D3 head coach from Illinois. It sounds like this one could be wrapped up shortly.

Tom Andersen has retired as the head men’s basketball at NJCAA D1 Eastern Wyoming College. He had been at the school for the past 17 years serving in many roles including MBB HC, WBB HC, and AD. He also spent time as head women’s basketball coach at D2 Chadron State where he concluded his tenure as the all-time winningest WBB coach in program history. Andersen’s job is now posted HERE.

I have heard that Illinois College assistant Matt Long is the leader to become the head coach at NJCAA D2 Kishwaukee College. Long has been on the staff at his alma mater ICC for the past five seasons. More here when it is made official.
